Default ick

what product do u recommend to treat the 1 small that has just developed on my true per. clown. i have a scarlet leg hermit crab, a cleaner shrimp that molted last night, and the clown fish. the shrimp had taken extra notice of the fish yesterday so i kept an eye out. this morning he has the spot . new fish from a place that is known for ick. i will from now on put new fish in a tank for a week before adding them to my main tank. i looked at my supplies and quick cure is not to be used in marine. 2/3 of the tank are inverts. will melafix work? please let me know and thanks.

Tsk tsk. All the preaching done around here about QT bfore putting in display.

Read about QT. There are plenty of threads about it here at RB.

Now that you have been spanked there are only 2 ways to get rid of ich. Copper and Hyposalinity. here are links to read. To effectively treat ich. Fish must be removed from DT put in QT and treated there. Effectively eradicating ich is a 4-6 week process for all your fish and DT. Sorry Amanda. No real good news here. Strap yourself in and get ready to take another step further into the hobby.

Yeah...
It is not that you cannot use Melafix (you really should not mess with meds in the DT), but I would be afraid that it might be too weak for a clownfish. It would be best to get that QT started and play "doctor" there.
You might even want to provide us with a pic if possible so that we can better diagnose. Clownfish get some nasty crap!

my husband looked at him and points out to me that there is a line connected to what i thought was a bump and it's a scar..I'm lucky and hope he stays healthy and i feel like an idiot. it would have been my fault. all my other tanks are preditor tanks and have 1 thing living in there and didn't even think about it having more then one thing in there. that in no way excuses me!!! I fully researched the fish and cap. but they always have an ick tank. U can post this under stupitity because i know better. I called the shop and he was ocean picked. so that explains a scar. I wanted a farm raised. i don't like taking to much from the ocean. I have a tank for sick fish I need an eye excaim and a brain scan! thank you
