Hi, i just bought a maroon clown fish and it was doing great for a couple of days, i didnt bother quarentining(sp?) it because it was him and a randalls goby that were the only things in a 75, it seems that after a couple of days in there all he seems to do is want to hangout by the overflow box. I took a closer look and saw that it looked like he had a swollen spot near the base of his tail, the next day it looked like that spot had risen up, i thought maybe velvet from what i have heard but its the same color as him, his symptons match velvet other then the color. And now he has ick as well, does anyone have any suggestions for treatment and if this is even velvet, he is now in my quarentine tank hopefully whatever it is hasnt spread to the others.

Please post some pics so we can be sure what we are talking about. Water params would also be appeciated.

Only 2 ways to cure ich...Copper treatments and Hyposalinity.

Your clown can handle these treatments but you might want to make sure the goby can handle them as well in case he needs to be treated also. In order to completely rid your tank of ich it will need to remain fallow for at least 4 weeks meaning both fish will have to be quarantined. The goby might not handle the copper or hypo so he might need another QT. Welcome to the wonderful world of Saltwater!

I would not hypo or treat the goby with copper...EVER. The clown can handle a copper treatment.


Could be ich. Could be velvet...could be...pics if possible please.
