Tangs are very susceptible to ich. From what I know and have read it takes 6 weeks for the main tank to get rid of ich, and that's without any fish in it for the ich to attach onto. Did you put your tang in a QT to treat?? How many other fish in main tank and do they have ich as well?

In short; if you have inverts it would be wise to take all the fish out of the main tank and, if at all possible, put into a QT for treatment for and don't put them back into the main tank for 6 weeks. I would also check previous posts regarding ich treatment.

The only two proven methods that will work EVERY time if done correctly are Copper and Hyposalinity. I prefer hyposalinity, but you must have a refractometer to do it, hydrometers aren't accurate enough. Either method requires treatment in a q-tank. Also, like previously mentioned, the main DT needs to remain fishless for 6 weeks to guarantee that all of the ich parasites within the tank are dead.

Here's a couple links on ich treatment methods.

i had the same problem with my tank........and my fathers reef tank...what we did, was feed the fish 3 times a day up from once a day...and added garlic to the food.we also raised the temp of the tank to 82..this seemed to make the fish less stressed...all 3 of my tangs had it, and just beat it on their own....i believe ich is present in the tank...so when the fish goes in it gets stressed and get it....this same way worked for my dads reef tank...its the only thing that worked for me without using medicine...as i have lost fish in other tanks i had previously to ich....hope it helps you out..
