I think the idea with an aggressive tank is to keep the fish well fed so there is not a need for them to hunt out the CUC. Don't know if it works most of the time or not. Have not had an aggressive tank myself. Maybe someone else will chime in.

FO type fish eat corals and inverts and are akways a with caution stock. Whene small and food plenty then it might be fine but with growth comes appitite. He might not like nass snails but love hermits , theres no way to tell.
But if well fead then the risk is lowered.

What kind of fish do you have in the tank? My aggressive tank has a clown trigger, a whitetail trigger, a harlequin tusk, a line green wrasse, and about 5 tangs. No clean up crew stands a chance.

I'm not sure any inverts, other than a starfish, would survive. The trigger and puffer would eat shrimp and the puffer would eat any type of crab you put in there. Unless you find some giants crabs, I would say away from inverts.

Thats what I was thinking. The only invertibrate that I have in their now is a tuxedo urchin and none of the fish bother it, but it also doesnt seem to do to much in terms of cleaning the tank.

I've found with puffers, the bigger the hermit the safer, shrimp are expensive food, crabs must be fast and VERY LARGE but won't last more than a week. Ween him into frozen food if he doesn't accept it already, I have 2 firefish and several chromis in my tank mine does'nt bother. And while I hav'nt had success with snails in general, I'v never noticed my puffer picking at them, just avoid ones with small, or thin shells. And cooler water temperatures will make them less hungry, therefore, less aggressive towards your tank mates

This is whats worked for me and my GSP, I had a porcupine once in a 29G But it was just him, half an inch of gravel and a magnetic algae scrubber.
How big is your Porcupine?

The porcupine is small about 2-3 inches. I put some turbos in the tank and none of the fish bothered them. But there was a a hermit crab left over in the tank from when it was still a reef tank and this hermit crab killed a few of my turbos for their shells. Its kind of weird how I was so worried about the fish killing the snails and it was a hermit crab that killed some of them.

I'm surprised the snails have survived. Not the urchin though.
