[nemo all the way]

i have had a porcupine puffer for a little over a week now and the first few days he was in the tank he was fine, swimming around the tank and now he hides under a rock all day long until i shut off the lights. i was wondering if anyone knew why he would be doing this. i have 2 tangs 2 damsels and 2 clowns i dont think that any of them are threating him in any way or form....the minute the sun comes up and hits the tank he goes right under then rock till night time when i shut the lights off. does any one have any advice???

he may just be light sensitive, because he cannot shut his eyes he would rather be in shade or in your case complete darkness instead of being blinded by light, my suggestion would either be maybe get a less bright light or just let him get comfortable. he may just not be comfortable yet either, all of these things factor in. hope this helps a little!

Mine did the same thing, until i changed the lighting on one side of the tank. He ventures out on the bright side for a while but mostly hangs out in the dim area.

I have a Porcupine Puffer. Porcupine Puffers are nocturnal. This means that they come out at night(or when it's dark) to eat. And they rest(or hide during the day).

Are these fish hard to keep and can you keep them in a reef aquarium or are they Fish Only creatures

Nevermind, after looking at the heading of this section that last part was a really stupid questing. I would, however, like to know if they are hard to keep or not, just for curiosities sake

there not terribly difficult to keep in terms of tank size but there nutritional needs and who they get along with is difficult to factor in no shrimp no crabs thats what they love to snack on

their not hard to keep. they are nocturnal. their suppose to eat live fish, shrimp, and crabs. mine will only eat fish. mine eats a few fish around every 3 days. it would be wise to only put aggressive fish in with it. i found that the fish you put with it should be at least 2 inches long, so the puffer does't think it's food. i also have live reef and live bottom in this tank. my puffers buddys are a humu, dwarf lion, and a foxface.
