Default FOWLR or FO

I'm starting my first saltwater aquarium and not sure if LR is worth it. My mom says its not worth it because it dies to easy but its been over 20 years sense she's had her last tank.

PSSSSSSSSSST......Shane dont tell your mom I said this ok........I have heard of a lot of things dieing in a reef tank and rock isnt one of them. And if you did do something to "kill" it it can be brought back to life.I know a guy who left it sitting in a corner of his basement for 10 years. He put it back in a new tank with a small piece of "live" rock and in a few months it was all new again.Live rock and live sand are the basic components of a reef tanks filtration system. Why dont you hang around with us a while and see what else you can teach your mom about saltwater tanks?

Shane do you have a tank set up already? You might want to read up on setting one of these tanks up.It takes a little bit more than just running out to the store and buying the stuff.you will need about 1.5 pounds to the gallon of tank volume. And it will cost anywhere from 3 to 6 dollars a pound.Remember this rock comes from a coral reef 5000 miles from here so it isnt cheap and its very special rock.

Congrats on starting your tank - this is a great place to learn. There is lots of info here - pick a topic and read. This can be an expensive hobby - so before you spend $$ make sure you've got everything else you need

Not enough good things can be said about live rock that is the way to go my Tanks have become great since I packed the Live Rock in them.Go with Live rock it is a Natural Filteration for a Tank with colonies of live Bacteria and greatly helps to keep Tanks stable and Natural.:thumbup :
