I know you guys have all answered all there is to be said. But since I have just stumbled upon this thread- I will ask:
I was given an opportunity to get a unicorn and a v-tang, free. I turned it down because of:
Dr. Jungles Exotic Pets, Animals, Aquariums - under unicorn tang, it gives detail on the fact the unicorn grows to be over 2 ft long, that it can be nice towards other tankmates, BUT is best to keep just one NASO to a tank.
I really love my blonde naso, so did not even want to take a chance on starting a possible fight.
Not sure if this source is correct or not, but wanted to ask if anyone else heard the same.
Can you place more than 1 naso in the same tank?

im pretty sure you can, i had a unicorn in with my naso and they were fine, there peaceful fish to begin with although other peoples experience may differ and the sex of the fish may have something to do with it but i have seen 5 naso's in a 55 gall tank at a fish store and they were getting along, and even though the unicorns grow big, they take a long time to grow and you can always trade them in a local fish store for store credit or trade of another fish as many do our you could even donate it to a zoo or large aquarium centre.
But unfortunately for me my unicon died, my skimmer broken one weekend when i was away and all my fish were like passed out on the bottom and my unicorn tang was passed out in my tube anemone half his body was stung i would say 50% and although none of the fish died he didnt eat for a couple days than he starved to death. I loved the fish was such a nice fish and had such a personality anyways. good luck

Thanks for the info Garrett, I appreciate it. Maybe I will give her a call again, as you are right, it is a very cool fish. A friend from work has one, and she says she loves him! Great personality! Thanks for the thought.

The rule with tangs is 1 or 3. When it comes to naso tangs, if you already have a naso tang and you want the unicorn, you should get another naso or a vlamingi at the same time as the unicorn. Same goes for the yellow or purple tangs. If you have one, and you want to add another tang of similar shape, you should add 2 at the same time.

To be honest, I have never had a problem with tangs. If you wanted to add the Unicorn and the V-tang, I doubt you'd have a problem. What other fish do you have in the tank?

yes i only have 2 yellows tangs and they get along ok but tangs will always chase eachother a lil bit as mine do but never anything life threating, but i did however pick up an achilles tang last week and ofcourse he got ich, so no its in a 10 gallon QT tank and getting better and seems to only eat brine soaked in garlic which im sure is helping as well, will post some pics on my "180 gallon start to finish" thread

How is your achilles doing in the 10 gallon? I know they love big tanks and are graceful swimmers. I would think they might be stressed in such a small tank. I have one now too, and all he wants to eat is mysis shrimp soaked in Selcon and green and brown nori. He's always seemed interested in flakes but has never actually eaten any.

well my achilles has been in the 10 gallon take for three days now and is still living, its only eating brine shrimp and plankton soaked in garlic, im sure it doesn't enjoy the small space but the only other tank i have is a 90 gallon and im not about to set that up for a QT tank lol although i might have to once my new tank comes.

How is everything going now? Is your Achilles back in the show tank?

not good on day 10 he was looking really well than day 11 i forgot to turn the air stone after feeding him and the next day he had died from no oxygen, i was very upset about this as i don't know to many people who have flushed $250 down the toilet and i guess i can only blame myself so i prob won't purchase one until my 180 is setup and running for a while.

Sorry to hear that. I know what it is like to lose an expensive fish. It's not cool. I once lost power while at work, and nobody knew. For about 15 hours a 150 had no oxygen, I lost $1500 worth of fish.

Remember, always get back on your horse after being knocked off.

wow thats avery sad to here, but see thats one thing i took care of from the get go, i have a back up battery system i paid $200 for and it will run my tank for a solid 8 hours if the power goes out plus its got the anti shock stuff and all that jazz but its always important to plan a head with saltwater cause its so dam expensive lol.

But as for the Achilles i think its just more upsetting having a rare fish die other than something thats more common, like when i first started out there was this guy who owned a fish store and he talked me into buying this beautiful moorish idol he had and i had like 3 months experience and it died with in a week, and he said oh ya its feeding blah blah blah, yada yada yada, and i think i was taken so i never went back there again after reading up on them.

and if your interested im in the midst of building a 180 gallon in wall tank in my basement and have posted a thread called "180 gallon reef start to finish", check it out in the building forums, i will be up dating it soon.

Cheers!

I know what you mean. I have battery backup on all my tanks now. The tank was up and running for 6 years and I never had an issue. In the tank was an asfur angel and a pair of watanabe's. So there were some rare fish.

I'll check out your thread........thanks.
