Default Algae?

I hadnt seen this till today, but it looks like a small patch of grass on my live rock. I wouldnt compare it to hair algae but its kinda stringy but deffinatley growing form the live rock. Anything like a crab eat this stuff? Im getting a few more hermits and maybe an emerald if that will help and I was trying to stay away from snails till the frags seat themselves but maybe I will just have to glue them and go ahead and get snails.

Hmmm.....an emerald.....

Some people have had some very bad experiences with those little guys. Anywhere from eating coral to killing fish. Just a heads up.

Hermits are good, but I personally would get more snails then hermits. IMO snails are better not only because they can get the glass, but also because they dig deeper in the sand thus causing it to be stired. Hermits have a tendancy to eat snails just for their shell. So, if it were up to me, and I were to get 12 animals, I would get 3-4 hermits and the rest snails. That is just me though.

Yes and no. In my experience, I have only been able to get snails to eat the short hair algae. The crabs will eat the longer hair algae. I would wait to see what others say though. This is all only my opinion and experience.

I have no idea what defines it. I guess anything under 1/2" is short?
