| Cant say for sure. Im leaning towards Flower Pot. If it is it will probably die within the first year. It will need target fed also. |
| ||||
| WHAT do I do??????? Give it back ??????

| Well ........ I would consider it. but it's up to you. your not going to get what you paid for it, and if you keep it you might get a year out of it. Now there has been instances where these things do survive! My 1st coral I ever bought was a flower pot it survived 7 months,that was 2.5 yrs ago. I have not bought another. I also see in your profile that you have been at this for 3 months? that coral wouldnt last 5 months, it is very delicate. My suggestion is this, spend $50 on a book, and take your time, Every last one of us in this hobby has been where your at, and I know it can be very tempting to buy that pretty coral you see at your LFS. But do that coral a favor, look at it, go home a read about it, then read some more. You will be more informed at what you are buying, and, you can save yourself a lot of headaches and money in the long run.

| Thanks for confirming that Reefmaster. Ian...you cannot buy without researching. It will cost you money just about every time. I admit I have seen some killer Flower Pots and its hard to stay away from them. |
| ||||
| but iv looked it up now and even though its green its not the REALLY HARD one Goniopora stokesi or Goniopora pendulus cause even though mines green it has short tenticles they are not long but more round like BUT i no its a flower pot ... what worrys me is if it gets the "JELLY" disease if it can kill ALL of my CORALS ??????????????? and if thats common all corals dieing from this one dieing?????? i want to try to keep it i really want tips and want info on what i should add like do i add calcium ????

Google Gonipora and read all about it. You can also go to Wet Web Media and do a search on it. You are going to get the info needed there. Some of the prettiest stuff out there is the hardest not to buy. I know. Its a great looking coral it just doesnt have a long lifespan in our tanks. |
| ||||
| The reason you got that so called pretty gonipora for 50 bucks is because it will not live 2 months in your system.I would take it back and spend your fifty on something that will live,and something you might know more about.I am sorry to sound mean,but its not just you, so many people buy gonipora beacause they are pretty but have no idea how difficult it is to keep alive.Also wherever you bought it from should have been able to tell you what it is,and they also should have warned you because believe me they know,they just dont want YOU to know.

| But if I leave it in my tank when it dies would it kill my other corals and do they all die of that brown jelly disease??? Also what TYPE of flower pot is it like the scientific name of it because iv looked online and have only found 2 types so which one do you thing it is??? And what can I do to keep it alive iv researched a lot and just came to the conclution that they need calcium and other products dosed into the tank along with some direct feedings and the will live

| If you leave it in you will watch it slowly die off. here are your options: 1- leave it in. Target feed it,phytoplanton, very small moronic foods.-prolonging. 2-Try to take it back to the LFS. and explain to the proprietor your situation. Unfortunately your left with no alternative. This Goniopora/Flower pot- Daisy Coral, is not a Hardy coral at all. On a scale of 1 to 10 it is rated at a 3. Is very aggressive, needs moderate to high flow, and moderate to high lights. Now even with all of this, it is not going to survive.The next move is yours. Happy Reefing

| Ian my friend, you have a long ways to go. but this is such a beautiful hobby, and we ALL MAKE MISTAKES!!! I have more corals that my tank can handle or more rocks which makes coral placement difficult. I have 2 rather large fish that is always knocking over corals ![]() I have things in my tank that require a high amount of calcium, alkalinity, and no reactor(me) to help keep up with the demand, which makes it rather expensive because I have to buy the stuff to dose the tank,but since I broadcast it, it last a little bit long than a capful here or there.Just hang in there buddy and lets do this thing!
