Default Florida Fish Species

I had a few opprotunities this week to go snorkling with some out-of-towners visiting our family and ran across quite a few things I recognized and one thing I didnt. Ive looked everwhere for an ID but cant find one.
It appears to be a sand algae eater, biggest I came across was about 5 inches. Resembled the fresh water algea eater everyone has in their tanks but a white sandy color.
I may try and catch one to put in a small tank to see if it is beneficial or not.
On a side note, if anyone wants red/pink urchins Anna Maria Island has thousands right now, from small to very large.
If anyone knows what this fish is please let me know f not then I will keep looking. Thanks

Nice!! I do believe that is what it was, and form the pics on google Im guessing its not something that stays small since people say they can eat them. Thanks!

I have a small one in my 75 gallon. It's only about 2". Some varities get 6" and some get to be 18". The side fins are like wings and it's cool to watch them glide over the sand. My husband wanted this fish. It looks pretty bad ass looking with its legs and watching it walk and swim not to mention it's little horns on it's head.

Glad I got the ID correct. My husband is a diver and had brought home butterfly fish, hawkfish, rock anemones, sponges and tunicates. He used to be a commercial fisherman for stone crabs and the things we would catch in the traps were awesome to see. Arrow crabs, nudibranches, and small fish and sponges just to name a few.

If I knew it would stay small I would bring one home today. If I get a small enough one I just might, just to watch it for awhile. Alot of friends have bigger tanks with wild caught species so it would have a good home, Thanks again.
