Default This is supposed to be a chili coral but I don't think it is!

Is it? I ordered a chili coral from saltwaterfish.com. All of the googling I've done shows that the chili coral have white polyps and their branches are 'fatter'.

This little guy has very yellow polyps and when I try to stand him up straight he bends over. I hung him upside down from the rock in a shady spot because that's what I read you should do with chili's. They like caves. So anyway - what should I do??

Does anyone know what this is? I'm worried that it's some type of coral that requires much higher lighting that my 29 BC stock lights. And should I stand it up straight? Help.

I would say yes, but I am not an expert. I googled chili coral, and this is the picture I got: looks like the polyps are yellowish/white. Maybe your lighting is different from the seller's unit, and therefore maybe the color would be off abit?
I have always wanted a red or pink carnation to hang upside down - just like you did...but I am still looking into the care for a carnation......nice pics.

You've found out what the problem is with common names. Many different species can have the same common name, although their care can be different. I would say that you do have a type of chili coral, and my guess would be that it is a Scleronephthya or Dendronephthya species

Thanks you two! I did some more searching and found that some of them do have yellow polyps. Who knows - he seems to be happy where he is and has filled out a lot and is looking good so far. I'm still not completely sure he's a chili though - the branches are too long and skinny from everything I've seen online. Sigh...
