Default brown algae good or bad

I have alot of brown algae on my live rock and all over the bottom of my tank. Someone told me it is good and will eventually turn green. Is that true or is it bad.

sounds like diatoms, they are normal and will dissappear on their own usually . They are caused by silica in the water wich can be because of useing tap water or a new tank. if your using tap water use a different source such as distilled or RO and that will help but after the tank matures it will go away on its own just try and keep it brushed off your live rock as much as possible but other than that its harmless and will dissapear on its own in a few months.

You never want to have algae of any color, but in new setups or setups with dirty water, brown diatoms are common. If it is a new setup, they should disappear within a couple weeks. If it is a old setup, you should improve your water quality. If you start getting green (hair) algae growing on your rocks at any point, it is bad and you need to do something to control/eliminate it.
