Default Growth on my live rock

I will try and get a good pic of them asap. But they look like a white sponge that is ball shaped, some are softer than others and most have a green core. You can tear them off the rock pretty easy.

If they have what apear to be spikes on one end of them and look somewhat like a transparen pinapple I would say a chicken liver spone, very common and very usefull. Usually do quite well in a tank.

If they are simply balls then it is prabably ball sponge (Tethya sp.) or Leather Latticework Sponge (Clathrina sp.). But, it sounds like a sponge.

Answer to medic, fuzzy balls on liverock, could be baby feather duster nests. I have these cocoons on several areas of my live rock, and later a tiny feather duster blooms.

To Ladyshaiann on the beautiful picture of thick, green, hair algae that can carpet your aquarium.
Ideas:
It can get ugly, in a reef tank, it can smother and kill live corals. Make efforts to control it. You may want to physically remove it. Pull out the rock and pull algae off with your fingers then scrub rock with an old tooth brush. Light and excess nutrient levels cause it to grow. Do frequent water changes. There are reef safe products that you can add to water to stop it's growth.

LadyShaian, It is Hair algae and it takes patience to get rid of it. Improve water quality, pluck the algae off. Be persistant and sooner or later you will get it under control. I recommend plucking it off by hand and then scrubbing the rock with a new rinsed toothbrush. You may need to do only small areas at a time nightly, but stay with it. Make sure your water isn't getting to much light (hours per day) and make sure your water isn't getting to warm and most of make sure you aren't over feeding. All promote algae growth. Along with consistant water changes.

to get rid of the long hair get 10 - 12 turbo snails. it will take a few weeks but they will eat it. also there are saveral blennies that eat hair alge.

www.Algone-Hair algae in the Aquarium
A site that may help. I had so much algae it was gagging my lawn mower blenny. He only wanted the new growth and the old long hairs kept growing out of control. I got an algae killer which got rid of ALL of my algae. Make sure you want to get rid of all of it before you get chemical products.
