Default thin white worm?

I have been seeing a thin white something. It is like a strand of hair, in fact thats what i first thought it was . But i can see it come out of a rock ,stays anchored in the rock and wiggles around. i can see it grow longer and retract into the rock. Any ideas?

What you have my friend is the the most dreaded thing is all of aquaria. A VERMETID SNAIL!!!!! The strand is poisonous and will kill anything it touches including you!

Just kidding. It is a Vermetid snail though. It lives inside live rock and casts out the thin white strand to feed on zooplankton and detritus. It is harmless and will not cause any damage at all. In fact, it is a very good sign the tank is healthy since they are very delicate. No worries buddy you are fine.

here ya go : Monterey Bay Aquarium: Snail (Vermetid Gastropod) Feeding Video

as well as : Snails That Worm Their Way Into Tanks by Ronald L. Shimek, Ph.D. - Reefkeeping.com

If it isnt a Vermetid then it is a Ctenophore which is equally harmless. A Ctenophore is a jellyfish whichs casts its strand to feed on passing detritus and plankton as well. No problem.
