| hrmm....thats a toughie without pics. You do state it is at the back of the tank. If it is getting little or no current back there it may be a dying or dead small sponge. If you cant post a pic give us a size in cm or inches and how far it raises up off the rock etc. Offhand though without pics and such I would guess it is a dying sponge. If it wont disturb the tank too much then I would just remove the rock and scrub that bad boy off with a hard brush. [edit] where was the live rock from?
