| That you have those little burrows that you can see from the side of tank is a very good thing. How deep is your sand bed? |
| ||||
| My sand is abbout 2 1/2 inch deep. The tank is two months old. I have nothing in their but 50 pounds of sand and 30 pounds of live rock. I am still adding live rock. I have 2 damsels and 2 mexican turbo snails and 4 red legged crabs. I have some xenia (sp) growing from the rocks, alot actually and probably 50 feather dusters growing. A few slug looking things, I know what they are and read they are good so I leave them alone that come out at night. I am not adding anymore fish or anything actually till I have 25 more pounds of rock in the tank and adequete lighting for corals. I have pods on my back glass, I read they all are signs of a healthy tank so I guess I am good to go so far. The tank is 55 gallon with a 10 gallon sump and protein skimmer. |

| while i am at it..... I just noticed a small sphere like thing that sort of looks like a black pearl. I know it is a type of alge but i dont know if it means something about the water or what i should do too get rid of it. it is a shiney black sphere......any ideas?? thanks |

| If the sphere has a green cast to it, it is bubble algae, and you need to get rid of it, and try not to 'pop' it, or it will send lots of spores into the tank, and you will have a lot more.

| the shiney black things are more than likely bubble algea. I dont think you have 50 feather dusters in the tank.You would be extremely lucky to get one.take a good look and I bet you will find that it is aptasia, and that is a bad thing. I dont have a pic of aptasia but im sure someone will read this and put one in here for you.I think you should consider makeing that sump a little bigger and add a refugium,say,20 to 30 gallons.If you do get more live rock i suugest cycling it in a tub of some sort.Putting it in the tank to cycle will more than likely cause a spike in amonia and nitrates which might kill what you already have in the tank. |

| thanks for the input. I do have lots of feather dusters I have done research. I have been told by my pet store guy that I have lots of feather dusters along with xeina. I do have aptashia like 4 of them, I dont need a picture thanks. I do know peppermint shrimp and butterfly tangs will eat them but the tang will die once they are gone and the peppermint shrimp will pick on some corals when i put them in, not eat them but pick at them and stress them out. Thanks though. Also I only add 5-10 pounds of rock at a time then keep a good eye on the water during the mini cycling because of the rock. I wont add anymore until that is complete. Everything is healthy and I ensure you they are feather dusters......lots of them growing. Thanks though, I plan on killing the aptashia soon with a caustic shot from a syringe. |
