Default Red feather duster like growth?

But it doesn't retract and is rather stiff. It has been growing steadily. It's about 1/2 inch tall

That's cyanobacteria aka red slime algae. Caused by excessive phosphates most likely. Do a water test. Make sure you are using only ro/di water. If you are still having probs have lighting down to 8-10 hrs day (white) and check to make sure you are not over feeding.

You can suck the stuff out with a turkey baster. You might also want to reconsider your flow.

who knows, maybe you can be the first to succesfully keep it in a home aquarium. you should do as much research on it as possible and then try to see how it will act with different salinities, lighting, etc.

I agree that it could be a bryozoan mass. Baer, I might just do that. It might be fun to continuously change my tank parameters... NOT.

It kind of reminds me of something I have seen before when I was a very young kid on an old movie from the late 1950's.

Anyway...Be careful...If it grows very rapidly ...RUN!

It consumes everything in its path!

Here is a better picture. This one is growing on a snail that was near the front of the tank.

I think It looks nice . How much for a frag. You might try sending a pic to wetwebmedia.com thay are real good at the unusal. Here's a link. Read the do's and dont before sending a question there a little picky about spelling and gramer. I used ms word to fix my'n up then just cut & paste. Even though I had 4 years of english in high school that was a long time ago.
