Hi everyone. Does anyone know what this is??? I found it on my liverock that I had for two years. At first it looked like a polyp and then it started to spread like a vine and this was only a week ago. Its growing fast BUT I dont know what it is. So cant anyone help me......oh by the way new stuff grew from my liverocks after I changed my 150x2 MH to 400x2 MH a month ago. and this is on a 55 gal and its the light colored algae.

did you add any sort of new things toy your tank, coral, clams, anything at all. also, what type or rock is it?

Grape caulerpa has a couple of variants, I think this is the pancake as the grape actually looks like a grape

Thats fiji rock. i had it for two years now and no I havent added any new coral//rocks for the past year or fish. All I added was a 400x2 MH....its seems to be growing fast.

There are spores and who knows what on and in the rock, sometimes just rescaping is enough, have you had any nuisance algae start up from the new lights? The caulerpa will grow before your eyes if the nutrients are there, if it starts going a lighter paler color pull it out before it dumps its bound nutrient load back into your system, the prawn growers in Asia use it in the rearing tanks for control of excess feed and heavy metal reductions.Steve
