Default Live Rock covered in something?

Wish I had a pic. but here's my best description. 1 piece of live rock, originally Pacific rock...reddish brown in color. After a few months, it is completely covered in a hard white "shell" about 1/32 - 1/16" thick (Like an M&M with no color). You could chip it off with a chisel, but that's about it. My fish, inverts, and other rock are normal. No polyps, or coral heads, threads, anything coming off of it. Any clues?

Thanks for the help!

Sounds like the coralline algae died off & you have the dead remains.

Great. What should I do? Get rid of the rock, try to chip the stuff off, or just let it be?

Just let it be, Coraline will grow back once the tank or lighting is corrected.

Thanks for the help. Anything I can do to speed up the process (additives)?

Whatever you do, DON'T use Purple Up. It will throw your pH out of whack.

What are your water parameters? What are you using for lighting?
