Default Mystery growth

Ok reefers. Take a look at these and see what you can come up with. This growth is very flat and seems to be multiplying rapidly and spreading.

Ok, give up? It has been identified as a lobophora variegeta; otherwise known as one of those unwanted, fast growing aquarium weeds, in the brown algae family.

It's leather or soft Mushroom Coral
harmless and a welcome hitcher on your live rock. The greenery is a Calurapa there are 7 different types
of Calurapa Macro-Algea's and at this stage hard to tell which variety.
You can move it to a new location to grow, but the leather/coral might be taking nitrients from the Calapura.

it does look a lot like a mushroom of some sort, but i guess you would know better since it is in your tank.

e_baer It is a Leather/Soft Coral
probably in the Rose color, won't be able to tell untill it grows bigger. Check out my post to "Bristle Worms
Bad or Good" it tells alot about how we dip Live rock,Fish,Corals,Inverts in Kansas City
I don't have a reef tank yet, but my friend has 190gal. tank we worked on the dipping together. P.S. I believe in buying tank breed animals,
But on October 27th 2007 all over the world Corals/Sponges will produce sperm & eggs under the full moon. How do they sort themselves out KeyWays from the different species will fertilize their own kind, get out your largest fine mesh net, or go buy one, don't capture from the Cor./Spo. get into the drift with a magnifier you will see multiple celled reproduction scoop up what you need send the rest to friends and some to Foster's Smith, see if Ryan G. wants some, and raise them up yourself. In a side tank also turn off filter sys. or you will just waste the egg's. Get in touch with all who live around Reef's and tell them about this oppertunity, PLEASE only limit to what you can store in 5gal Bag/Bucket or make several dips in different areas with 5 ziplock bags.
Remember to change S/W add CO2,Calcium,Strontium,Tra ce Elements,
when sending. SnowWolf M&M

I would be willing to bet that this is illegal inside the continental U.S. I would not like to see my RB buddies in jail lol.I would wonder how much damage could be done to a reef by having lots of people going to them in boats.I would also wonder how many of these eggs would die in captivity as opposed to being left alone in the wild.In short I see nothing positive in this scheme, and dont see how it is in the least bit supportive of tank bred animals.Save a reef, stay home on oct 27th.

i think it would be alright if a company went and got around 100 gallons of the egg water, but everyone. i was watching deep blue and they were showing that, and how hardly any surive, which is why every egg counts.

Your probably right I didn't mean for every body to do this, without proper permission. It could have a drastick
effect on the reef's as only a few eggs get heavy enough to start anew
cycle, the rest are eaten by fishes, anchovie schools ETC. I should not have mentioned it and don't want all the reef.s barren by boats and people who don't when to stop. You have to get permission from 3 different places also a Marine Bio. doctorate help's. Please don't do this Just watch and take Picture's
PLEASE
