Default featherduster worms?

I've had this rock for a couple months, and I'm seeing more and more of these, one is bright red the rest appear clear or light neutral colors. Are they little feather dusters or something else? Thanks for any help.

I have tons of them growing everywhere which makes me wonder if a dangerous level of overpopulation can occur, and what to do about it.

Really what we are talking about are serpulid worms. They are still dusters. I don't know if this will help, but I did find this on WWM this morning. Gives you an idea what condions they do well in and what may or may not be able to control them. Keep in mind, those calcium based tubes give them plenty of protection. Other than that, try to enjoy them...I like the red ones!

since being on the subject of feather dusters and worms, I hada pair of christam tree worms that live on my brain coral. now they have lost all their "feathers" but are still alive. why are they not being grown back?

I feed phytoplankton 1-2 times weekly and all other things are fine.

I thought my Brown striped duster had died but 2 weeks + a few days it popped back up. But I have read that the Christmas tree worms is the hardest to keep. I hope you have the same luck I had. I was told that when they have lost there feathers that they only pop up at night you might try looking then.

Eliot, I do not know much about this worm. Might want to check your tank parameters. I read that these are serpulids. I have one that came with a zoanthid colony and lost its crown once. Took a long time to regrow the crown. Now, my sabellid worms grow back their crowns within a few days to a week.

well, all my levels are perfect. I have heard that they can be a bit tricky to care for though.
