Default White growths in tank

After reading one of the threads I realized I have a calcerous sponge problem in my tank. My question is...am I contributing to the problem by adding calcium to the water? Any info would be appreciated.

You might just have a well fed tank! These sponges are harmless but can be a real pest because they grow on everything, from the rocks to the equipment. I have found that maintaining decent water parameters helps control them...not eliminate them. But most things are good in moderation.

We seem to have these also - mostly in the overflows. At first I wondered what they are. But from Becky's answer, they seem to be OK? I'll let them go for now, but how do I know if they're overgrowing orif I have a problem with too many?

Mike, it is like everything else. Just looking in my husband's display, I see 1 or 2. When you are seeing hundreds between your rock and equipment, things are looking unsightly, you got a lot! With equipment rules apply the same as with everything else, when you are cleaning scrape them off...you'll get more later.

Gerry, I've seen these pop up and multiply with low calcium.

That makes sense. Right now, we've got some but not a huge amount. When we move the tank and reaquascape, we'll trim a few out of there. Alongawith that Angelfish.....

Thanks Becky!
