Default bright green growth on live rock

tank is about 8 weeks old. i have 5 snails, and 4 hermit crabs, no fish or other inverts yet.

a couple of weeks ago, one of these started growing on my live rock. it is very bright green. this is the first and largest example. several others are starting to grow as well, though much smaller.

thanks in advance for your help

That is neomaris annulata. It is a type of macro algae. It is harmless to your tank inhabitants and will actually help reduce your nitrates if it propagates, which it will...mine has. If you don't mind what it looks like. It's also known as fuzzy tipped algae and caterpillar worm algae.

i like the way this algae looks.

in fact, i like the way the other macro algae looks that i have growing in there as well. the way it sways back and forth with the currents in the tank is nice, and is making it easier to wait on putting fish in.

anyway, thanks for the identification!
