Default Little green bubbles...

anyone know what this might be...they look like little dark green bubbles on the live rock that are blueish in the center, there was a small patch of them next to a colony of sea mat, now there is another little group starting next to a colony of zoa's...any ideas?? i'll try to get a pic of them...

do they look like little glass globes? if so they are a type of algae. My lfs has them in their display tank and they look like glass shiny globes. as far as I know they are harmless. hope this helps.

can't get pics.

Sounds like you have bubble algae GET IT OUT NOW! Some bubble algae never causes a problem, others grow out of control and will be on every rock you have. Don’t take the risk, remove without breaking them. Some types of Mithrax crabs will eat bubble algae.

Default Do Not Burst!

These can be a hard to rid your tank of. I have heard that they are toxic if broken but I am not sure.

We had a few groups of them. We were told that they were bad for the tank and to take them out by gently twisting the cluster off of rock. DO NOT BREAK THEM! Apparently they will release toxins into the water. We were successful in getting them out and have not seen any return.

Never heard of bubble alge being toxic, it's alge! Still, it is a pest and hard to get rid of. Only 2 things I know eat it are emerald crabs and sailfin tangs.

That's right what they said. I am not sure about it being toxic though, I do know that there are gasses in them and if you pop them and let the gas out it will make it spred. Good luck!

I am so glad you had this link. Mine is the Ventricaria ventricosa. I thought it was really cute until I read about it. I guess i'll be removing the two I have seen in the tank very carefully.

Thanks alot. That link answered my question exactly.
