Default black and red worm in substrate?

I just put in some live sand from the fish store in my 12 gal nano tank yesterday and there was this very very small black and red worm looking thing partially under the sand right on the edge of the glass moving horizontally. I'd take a picture of it but it was too small. It's gone now because my snail must of sensed it and devoured it, it was the coolest sight. it just started taking bits out of it until it was half gone and then it must of disapeared into the sand again. I'm sure that must be normal, but now my snail won't eat. Its a carnivorous snail that lives under the substrate. I usually frequent the LFS in my city everyday about the same time which just so happens to be feeding time. Almost every tank in the store has these really cool snails and when the food goes into the water they sense it and surface to attack the food that the fish don't get its really neat to watch. Since I frequent the store they eat everyday. Well I put in some food in my new nano and the little guy never surfaced. I'm concerned...

The hermits ate his food so no worrys about that, but he didn't come up or anything. Any idea if maybe the worm he ate made him sick or something?

And what is that worm thing anyone know?

could have been a bristle worm, ive seen them in my tank, are the snails you're talking about narcissus snails?? there are 5 of them in my tank and they come out at feeding time, they seem to like the flake food, they start rampaging around the tank at feeding time lol...ive never had a problem with the bristle worms vs. the n. snails...if you have too many bristle worms in the tank try a coral-banded shrimp or arrowcrab, they'll hunt 'em down but a few bristle worms are common in most tanks...

I'm not sure what the snail is. I just got the sand so I'm sure theres not "too" many worms. I'll try feeding the snail again and see if it comes out.

the snails are nassarius snails. i have a few of them. they are fun to watch rise out of the ground. i call the "night of the living dead snails" haha
there will always be things in the tank you dont want or dont know about, its okay.
the black and red worm sounds like a fire worm. i have a few of them in my tank and had a 3 inch one brush accross my arm.
Im in the marines, and i have never felt so much pain before. you litterally feel like your on fire. just keep an eye out on it.

I think it’s a type of spaghetti worm, I have some too. I would like to get rid of them. They often come out at night but as mine have gotten larger they have also gotten braver. I’m going to try an Arrow crab.
