Default green tree-like structure

i know i will need a pic to help identify it and i will get around to it but what does this sound like. they look like light greenish colored tree-branches extending off the rocks...kind of slightly fuzzy looking. they have some rigidness to them, they dont just wave around in the water. i'll post a pic of them when i get my camera going...just thought i would get some folks brains going.

they also coat some of the live rock as well...hmmmm...dont know how else to explain it.

nope, i just looked up a pic of a xmas tree worm...i wish i had some of those...nice looking. as soon as i get my lazy butt off the couch i'll take a pic. i am sitting around watching the movie 300 for the 10th time....i did take 10mins out of my schedule to do a water change really quick. who would ever think someone would be happy about finding little critters jumping around in the filter and off the carbon cartridge, those lil things were jumping for their lives.

High alkalinity, more water movement, frequent water changes, patience and bryopsis will be a thing of the past.

Oh, and use a soft bristle brush to scrub surface of live rock before siphoning for water changes

The only way I have ever heard of to get rid of bropsis is elevated magnesium levels.Raising the mag levels from the approximate level of 900 to 1000 ppm to 1600 ppm SLOWLY over a two week period and letting it drop back to normal for however long it takes will do the job.I recomend getting doing a base level test first to determine the starting level. Then testing every day during the addition of magnesium, this also includes ph testing DAILY.If any of your parameters go out of whack during the addition period STOP ADDING.The magnesium actually turns off the photosynthetic process in bryopsis and starves it to death. If you see it turning brown before you reach 1600 ppm STOP ADDING you have accomplished your mission. This process has not been known to harm other forms of algea.Bryopsis is rare in the reef tank so it would be a good idea to make sure that is what you have by independant identification.Once again I will say,USE CAUTION,ADD SLOWLY,TEST TEST TEST.Also you may notice that the coral coloration may become brighter during this process.Do not, repeat DO NOT even think about keeping these levels up because the coral looks so nice.
