| I believe that Cyano is a sign of Nitrates, Shut off your lights, and do about a 30% water change. Then I believe it should takes it's natural cycle of going away. Are you using a Canister filter?

| i was useing a canister filter.. had tank running for about 3 weeks with it, i just hook up my sump 2 days ago. i have no live stock in tank right now so would it be a good idea to keep lights off for a couple of days? my last water test my nitrates low range was 10. |

| Coraline takes time, Keep your calcium levels up andit will grow. In my tanks it starts in spots here and there, it'll get there. I also use something called purple up to help grow coraline algae |

| Most here will tell you that using purple up will reek havoc on your ph if used as directed. If you use less than recomanded it will be ineffective.Keeping your calcium levels up will give you plenty of coraline growth. There are to my knowledge no additives that do exactly what they claim on there labels.Additives to remove algea and nitrates are most notable. Two rules that apply here:NEVER PUT ANYTHING IN YOUR TANK YOU CANT TEST FOR.Quite simply unknown levels of any chemical in your tank pose a danger to the tanks inhabitants.NOTHING GOOD EVER HAPPENS IN A HURRY IN REEF TANK.It takes a year for a reef tank to reach any level of maturity.Trying to rush this process can only lead to disaster.Rapid changes of any kind, good or bad,are stressful to the inhabitants.Leave the junk out of the tank and two things will happen.Your tank will mature in the manor intended and become that beautiful little corner of the ocean you intended and,you will have a few dollars left in your pocket(note:this rarely happens in this hobby but one could hope lol) |

| Cyano is usually the result of high PHOSPHATES & poor flow. Get some PhosBan - that should take care of the problem. Phosphates can be introduced to your tank through food, salt mixes, water source and some types of carbon. Small water changes do little to reduce contaminant levels. You need to do something massive. Check out this water change method -http://saltaquarium.about.com/cs/nitratecontrol/l/aa091901.htm Increasing flow in that area should help as well.

| My tank is all live rock.. both are on mine.. also green and yellow algi.. I encorage algi coz it gives my tank amazing colour.. yeah worth the wait... was thinking of getting ocean rock like that and add it in even though it will stick out like a sor thum.. would like to know if worms and stuff reproduce in his tank..n if i drill anough holes in my plane rock.. things would populate it from other rocks.. or will it just grow algi on it??.. hmm |

| if you have no fish in your tank, yhen by all means leave the lights off this will aid in getting rid of this stuff, I have abut 8 turbo snails in my 110, they really help keeping this stuff in check. |
