Default white spot on tang

help identifying white spot... i tried to get a pic, but that didnt work.. so ill try to explain it. There is 2 little white specs on its fins one on the tail fin and one on the side fin. The spec's are about the size of a micro bubble. the spots dont look like its in the fins but attached to them. could this be some kind of parasite or just something that sticked to it?

I may be wrong but rid ich has copper in it as the medicine. If your running a reef tank id strongly advise against using it. I may be wrong and im sure someone will correct me if i am.

Kent's Garlic Extreme will work. Just put one drop per 10gal of tank water, also add it to your food. I have had no ich, it really works

If you feel you have got to treat these types of symptoms (skin disorders) in your DT you will want to try Metronidazole. It is a PROVEN medication (antibiotic) to treat skin disorders. Doctors prescribe it for humans, Veterinariens for livestock and now we have it available for our fish too. Just mix it with their food. Reef safe. Of course if your fish has ich these are only temporary fixes. The rest is a whole nother story. I use garlic too!

UV will kill the ich that is in the water column but if it is on the fish it needs QT'd and treated. And the cleaner shrimp will not do much for it except for eat the white spots on the outside, but since ich is an internet parasite then they dont solve the problem, it just feeds the shrimp. That was my understanding atleast.

a uv will help prevent ich, you can freshwater dip him and as long as he is eating he will be fine.
Ich has a life span I believe of 2 weeks, fresh water dipping speeds up the life span.
I added a tang to my reef, he broke out w/ ich (Their very succeptable), w/ my uv running 24/7 it cleared..

I agree with you on everything but the life cycle, which is 6 weeks. That is why when there is an ich outbreak the tank needs to be cleared of all fish for 6 weeks.

ok just to make sure this is ICH.. heres a update.. still only 2 spots on my tang nothing on the body, one on the side fin and one on the tail fin. its eating great swimming around great no signs of it being sick.. but the one spot on its side fin looks to be getting bigger. its like a little small white ball attached to its fins? all the pics i seen that were ich looked to be small white spots on the body.. is there any other parasites that look like this?

I agree with the fungus, this does not sound like ich to me, I have 3 types of tangs and I also had this problem, I actually was able to scrape the spot off without harming the fish

Here is a photo of my Blue Hippo when she was covered in weird white spots. I put some silversides and krill in the food processor and added some garlic drops and selcon drops and re froze. I feed it to her everyday, along with garlic soaked nori and she was "spot free" in a matter of days.

And here is her today...oh so pretty

Oh yeah! My copperband butterfly had that when it was first in the DT. It went away on its own.

Good Luck!
