Hey my tank is pretty new, about a month old or so. I have been seeing alot of bubbles form, clear bubbles. They are on top of the curshed coral, the LR, and I can even see them in the crushed coral. Is this Cyano? I have a bunch of brown-tan algae that is growing. A bunch of this on the crushed coral. I thought they where just air bubbles that where forming? when I push the bottom around, they float to the top? So I am not too sure if it is just air or Cyano? Please give adivce on this.

can you post a pic. this would help all of us try to find out what they are, could simply be air that was locked in you substrate (?)

Check your water parameters and see how far your cycle has progressed. Crushed coral is notorious for trapping various gasses; including nitrogen. That could be bad later on if you have trouble keeping delicate specimens alive. The crushed coral has to be cleaned with a siphon/vac as sand sifting critters cannot successfully "sift" the crushed coral.

would it be a good idea to put a layer of sand on top of the crushed coral? or no? I will be do a complete cleaning of the tank this week or weekend? so it would be a good time to add the sand if need be?

I would do one or the other, not both, don't really know if it would benefit you, because of the trapped air. just a thought

If you're serious about switching, you can do a mix. The best thing IMO, is to remove your CC, and replace it with sand. Of course, this all depends on what specimens you actually intend to put in the tank. A little CC with a lot of sand would be a great substrate for jawfish, for example.
