Default white sprials and white balls

Similar to medic I have 4 white Cotton looking balls on my rock.
And also on my glass rocks and filter I have white spirals. They are hard and they are very well attached.I was thinking calcium deposits but haven't a clue. I have a pic in the forum check in. Unfortunately my camera is not quite good enough to show detail.

Im not sure what the white balls are, but i had them too. They look similar to a cocoon, and i assume there is something inside. I removed my rocks, and gave them a fresh water bath for 10 minutes, and they were no longer there.
Also the spiral things i believe you are describing are small feather dusters. I had them all over my tank. They are not harmful, and are a good sign of a healthy tank. I personally do not like them and think that the white spirals are unattractive. They will spread. I would reccomend the fresh water bath. This completely whiped them out also!

yes I agree they are unatractive. I can get them off if I scrub. But the real question is why are they there? I will wait a little longer to see the effects of them. I have noticed no problems so far.

Yep, if you leave the "white cotton ball" cocoon on the live rock, another small feather duster will emerge and consequently in time a hard calcareous white tube that he lives in. I leave them in my tank to help suck excess nutrients out of the water. I haven't seen any harm in leaving them on the rock, but if they get in excess, I'll be trying the fresh water dip.
