I don't think they are. They look more like some kind of brown algea*.

I didn't think so, they look like the fungi on the side of some trees but saltwater ones are much nicer in color, and i don't think i'm lucky enough to have a fast spreading good thing in my tank. my lfs dosen't have much of anything and it's hard to find time to reseach other than the things i have to take care of. my cat had 6 kittens and she is driving us nuts and my son might have to be put in a mental inst. so this is a bad time for new things to show up. thanks to All

They look like shrooms from the picture. Are they soft? Very brown, have not seen shrooms that color before but I guess anything is possible. Can you get a closeup?

I dont think they are shrooms either, they would be larger.

they have been there a week but you had to look for them, then they got huge over night days. do to a sick fish and very extreme problems with my son and 6 kittens, I haven't had the time to feel them. they are very brown!

I'll have to post back in the morn. I will try to get a better shot. I can move it at lease 2 inches closer but that is the best pic i got. I took one with nearly all settings but moving the rock should help.

My husband thinks hes going nuts. He keeps hearing glass crack and smaller bangs. he has heard it for 3 days. Just let me know today. I really hope i don't have a mantis shrimp.

How long does it take for a mushroom to get full size. This stuff popped up very fast.

Those are lobophora variegeta. They are indeed brown alge. They will spread and infest all your LR if kept unchecked. I have some in my tank, and I have been fighting for about 6 months. The best way to rid of it is to remove the rock, and scrape the algae off with a wire brush. I got a couple form the hardware store in the form of a welder's brush. Brush off the algae and then use an icepick to dig out the "roots". Rinse with dechlorinated water and put back in tank. To this point, I have not been successful in totally removing them. I am unaware of any natural predators. Just keep after it, and you can keep them manageable.

Thanks to all, i also have an infestation of bubble algea. I got the emeral crab but he dosn't seem to mess with them. he might have popped some. well i get rid of 1 algae and git two more, lol. oh well it's good to keep busy

the snaping you heard could be pistol shrimp. i had the same problem and for some reason they do it at night more than during the day. i had them for a while but didn't have any problems with them.
