Default Hey everyone

I'm new to this forum. I have been keeping a 14 gallon biocube for about 6 months now and just had a bad weekend with some leathers dying. I came to this site to seek further help in the nano division of saltwater aquariums. Hope to meet some cool people and learn a lot about saltwater fish/reef keeping.

As much work as re-aquascaping and doing mods can be, it's always fun so enjoy it.

hey I just reaquascaped my tank earlier today and I am not to happy with it. I had some big pieces in it and I broke them up with a skrewdriver and hammer and every piece has a flat side to it. When I went to aquascape it I couldnt fit the pieces together easily. I got about to caves out of it and I want my rock higher up in the tank so I have a variety of places for corals to live.

Should I take this broken up rock to my work/LFS (pretty cool guy who runs the whole place) and order some nano rock online? He only carries bigger rocks because he deals with bigger tank customers.

If I were you, I'd do the best I could with what I have, otherwise any new live rock you add to your tank will cycle again and probably give you another algae bloom.

Have you tried the 'ruins' cave look? You could put two lr pieces in the sand straight up and down and put another flat piece over those two, makes a cave that imo looks like underwater ruins... just an idea.

Welcome to RB!

Yea I have tried to make some caves like that. I originally had two large pieces of LR in my tank and a medium sized and then a branch. I broke up the two large rocks and took the medium sized and the branch out. Ill get pics up when I get to my house probably tomorrow.

I was told that you can add LR to your tank as long as it was already cycled? The water is what needs to be cycled if I'm correct. The LR is in a big 150 gallon tub at my work. It's already cured. But if I was to order off the internet wouldn't it also be cured?

What do you guys use to keep rocks together so that when I place corals the rock work doesn't fall?

Putty? Epoxy? Super glue gel?

I do not like the epoxy, it is not always a guarantee. Didn't work for me, or some other people I know. The glue is good. Can you send a pic?

Well everyone I just had a potential crash with my tank last week due to a power outage. The tank did not turn back on as it should have. The GFCI protector that adapts to the wall its yellow and people had told me that it is best to get one if you have water spillage. Well that set my tank up for failure. When the power goes out the GFCI pops out and when the power comes back on you have to manually reset it and if you are not home then you are skrewed like I was. Last most of my tank a few corals a few fish with only my clowns left. I have not been home because I was visiting my dad all weekend (divorced parents) and my mom calls me at night and says my entire tank is dead. The temperature read 98 degrees I totally freaked out. What could have possibly happened? I think it was a heater malfunction but I really dont know what to do with my tank now. Maybe use it as a quarantine and setup a 75 gallon or something.

Wow, I'm so sorry to hear about that! Hmm, it does sound like an opportunity to upgrade to a larger tank though... not a bad idea imo.

Actually I have decided to stick with my 14 gallon. I am going to throw the HQI sunpod on it and mod the rear chambers with a skimmer. Any opinions on a skimmer? And what about a new heater? visitherm?

Titanium heater. No glass. Top of the line IMO

Sorry about your tank. Glad to hear you are going to start another!
