Default New member and curious about tests

Hey, I'm new to this forum after going to a fish store I realized how much I don't know about saltwater tanks even after having them for two years. Although, most would say I'm not a very serious or devoted person to my tanks because of the sizes I love them to death. I actually cried the last time a fish died. I previously have had a five gallon tank, a two gallon tank and I am now moved up to a ten gallon tank. I feel as though people don't take me very seriously about caring for fish because of how small my tank is, but I am unable to afford anything larger since I am still in college and don't really make money that I can spend.
I just wanted to introduce myself though.
I have a ten gallon tank as I mentioned before and I have three damsels in there that surprisingly get along well for how aggressive damsels are. I wish I could buy more expensive fish but unfortunately I can't I love taking care of my fish and don't trust my parents at all, they happen to always kill a fish when I go on vacations. My fiancee thinks I'm crazy because I talk to my fish but that's okay. I joined this website because I'm hoping to find a ton of information that I didn't know before as well as getting to meet other people who love their fish as much as I do.
I have one last question, presently I don't buy test kits for my tank since my fish seem extremely healthy all the time and there are only slight problems with algae growth and salt creep. Would anyone highly recommend using tests for your tank? I know I should test it, but it's $30 and I am cheap and saving money. So if anyone has a strong opinion on tests please let me know! Thanks!!

YES! test but you might try finding a place to do it for you for free. Most places will do it for you. However their reliability on how well the test was carried out can always be suspect. GoodLuck

Welcome to RB! You should look into your own test kits they are very important to have...Instant ocean has some very reliable ones for around 10 bucks each I think...Remember local fish stores (LFS) usually charge alot more than online

look around, be prudent with what you buy. "it's not the size of the tank, it's how much you love the hobby".........I started out with a smaller tank, soon you will also have a bigger tank. welcome to RB
