Default Starting a saltwater reef, and could use help and advice from EVERYONE ;0)

Hi Firends!!!

I have been a fanatic over marine fish and wildlife, and have finally come to the conclusion that YES, I will go ahead and start one up!!!! I have had freshwater setups for years, but now, I have gotten rid of the freshwater, and will be starting a 75-125 gallon setup. I have done a little research, and I am very nervous with this all. I am going to need everyone's help with this, espescially those that have been taking care of their own setups for a few years or longer. I just need to know what equipment I will need, suggestions on the species of fish my setup should become a home to, and anything extra that you can think of.

Hope to hear from you all soon!!

Navygirl436,
It is very important that for your substrate you use live sand. I did not and had to change out my crushed coral, and it took all day My crabs love the sand It is better that you get advice from others who have had SW for a while, and do not listen to the lfs person, like I did!! This site is great, and I have learned quite a lot here. Best of luck to you, you are going to get addicted. Deb

Welcome navygirl. Good Luck on the tank. My suggestion would be to buy a book, honestly. That was my first purchase. I just purchased my tank this past weekend, and I think I'm on the right track, at least the book says I am.

Good Luck on finding the tank.

Navy:

Welcome to the hobby. I just started my 180G tank. The point is I am new to the hobby so take my word only if you can trust me.

First ofcourse is get a glass tank and not acrylic. Oceanic makes great glass tanks. Go with the 120G. Obviously, buy a stand that can take the weight. For the lights go with outer orbit, MH, T5 and Lunar. Get a large sump underneath the tank, protein skimmer and UV sterlizer, 3 3100 powerheads and a really quiet main pump.

Get carribean course reef sand and not crushed corals.

That's a start.

Sanjay
