Default My first saltwater - goin into a book store

Hi everyone, I'm putting together a saltwater aquarium to be the main focal point in a brand new bookstore in Des Moines, IA. Right now I am looking at a 180 gallon setup, and am planning to spend around $5000 on it when all is said and done. Am I in the ball park there?

I am very fortunate to have as an advisor the head aquariust at the local zoo, so hopefully that will give me a big advantage over total newbies. That and a great forum like this should help me have a great reef tank! I can't wait, I've had a number of smaller freshwater systems in the past, but I've always wanted a big dramatic saltwater aquarium. I'm even more excited that it will be in the store where everyone will be able to see it.

We're not opening until November, but here's a small shameless plug anyway: EAST VILLAGE BOOKS - books • music • gifts • art

I look forward to corresponding with you all!

There Is No Limit On The Amount Of Money That Can Be Spent. I Remember The Day I Bought My 90 Gallon. It Almost Wiped Out My Kids College Fund. You Should Of Saw My Wifes Eyes When I Pulled That Credit Card Out On Top Of The Cash We Spent. Ha Ha Ha

Borders' parent company used to have a great saltwater tank in St. Louis. Lucky you!

Welcome aboard!

Welcome to RB! You should plan on spending at least $30 per gallon to get your tank (reef)cycled...after that, the sky is the limit.
