Default Hello New to Forum

Hello. New to the forum and I wanted to introduce myself.

Back in the mid 80's I had a salt water system for about 5 years. It was great with the normal ups and downs that comes with the hobby. Most of my fish were there from the beginning and I was quite attached to them. After a short four day vacation, with my room mate watching over the tank, I came home to a tank of dead fish. Obviously I was heart broken and the room mate swore he did nothing but feed as I instructed.

After the room mate moved out a few weeks later, for multiple reasons other than the tank, my neighbor came by and asked me not to have live bands in my house anymore. Boy was I upset and quickly figure out why all my fish died. Apparently the room mate had a party with a rock band in the same room as my tank while I was gone. The fish probably suffered from extreme stress from the vibrations. At least this is what I have thought over the last 20 years.

I am now looking to get back into the hobby again and this time with a reef tank. I live in the Houston area and would appreciate any advise on local merchants for equipment and live stock.

Thanks

Dano999

Welcome to Rb Dano! If you're going to have a reef tank, you can figure about spending around $30 per gallon just to get it cycled using LR. That should give you something to ponder about budget. Houston? My guess is there are many local LFS dying to sell you a reef tank. Shop around..it'll save you money. Petorama should not be ignored as they have some real smart people there as well. Good luck!
