| Hey there welcome to RB. The tap water is going to give you some issues with algea and diatom bloom so just be prepared for that. A good clean up crew should help. Patience is the virtue with SW. You will want 1-2 lbs of Live rock per gallon of water. Not familiar with your filter so I will look it up later and try to see if it's proper for SW. Remember ask the forums because they typically will have more knowledge and experience than your LFS and they aren't trying to sell you anything. |

| Drew, welcome to RB! Is there any way you can remove the tap water and replace it with distilled or RO/DI water? This would be easier than after you get fish, etc. in the tank. I learned the hard way, about the tap water, now all I use is RO/DI water. Welcome, and the advice here is great!

| Welcome to RB Drew! There are two things you must remember with reefkeeping: 1) be patient 2) do not believe everything your LFS tells you. Use R/O water instead of treated tap water. Tap water can contain copper which will kill invertebrates and corals. Cycle your tank with LR equal to 1 lb per gallon; minimum. Remember, take your time. Your wallet will thank you for it down the road; and so will your specimens!

| Actually tap water and the solutions are what fit into my budget. So for me to take all the water out and get RO/DI water would be out of the question. My buddy set his tank up the same way 2 months ago with tap water and his tank, LR and inverts are doing great. I guess I'll add the LR and see if they can make the tank cycle correctly. Thanks all. | Tap water is all I can use right now. When I do the water changes I'll see if I can do RO, probably will be able to. Just put in 15lbs of LR because the local place charges $5 a pound for cured LR and $75 was a hit in the wallet. I will add more when I get some more money. |
