So I am brand new. Not just to the forum but to the hobby. I am in the process of just getting my tank started. Literally. I had to use tap water so I am letting it run and filter for 2 weeks before adding any of my composite or salt. I would appreciate ANY and all comments on things I need to do to set my tank up successfully. So far I have purchased crushed coral as well as live sand and salt. Obviously it is all still sitting in the bags until it's time. I also purchased a new filter (bio wheel 200)
So as I said it is cycling for two weeks. Maybe extreme but I want to be sure all the chlorine is out of the water.
According to my pet store man I should also allow at least a week once I add all my sand salt and coral before doing anything else.
I have been seriously interested in this for a very long time but have been repeatedly put off by the "it's too hard and too expensive mantra" that everyone seems to spout. Interestingly enough it is by folks that have never had a freshwater much less a marine.
So anyway a trip to Newport Aquarium a few weeks ago pretty much made me decide to go for it. (Incidentally I got a few good pics there if there is anywhere to post them and if anyone is interested)

A little more about me, I am employed by Amazon.com. I have 4 children, married and live in E Ky. I enjoy most things outdoors as well as photography and books. Yes books. Needless to say I am perfectly suited to my job. LOL. I also enjoy Texas red dirt music. So I think that about sums it up.
Now I am off to peruse the newbie threads!!

Welcome to RB and good morning! First off, I would take the crushed coral back to the store (traps nitrates) and exchange it for live sand. Research, and ask questions here; he wants your money, they don't here. You will get lots of good advice here. Most are very good answers, and just remember, no question is a stupid question. Welcome
