 New Kid on the block Hello everyone, glad to be apart of reef builders. I'm new to saltwater being in it about 6 months now. I started with a 30 gal. and since moved it into a 55 gal. A question I have is I was using a fluval 205 canister filter w/30 gal. I've been using it for a couple of months now, things to be ok, but am concerned that the filter will eventually not be able to keep up. I also have a sea clone protein skimmer. Would you recomend getting a bigger filter or is the combination have ok?  |

| Re: New Kid on the block Welcome to RB James! With a decent protein skimmer, LR, and DSB, you really should not need any other filtration. |

| Re: New Kid on the block Welcome James, Glad to see another "local" here. Depends on the kind of tank you plan on keeping. If a reef, dump the canister & Sea Clone - get yourself a good quality skimmer, LR & LS & you should be set as Cyber mentioned. A sump/refugium would be a good add as well. If you're going FO, you could keep what you have but be sure to clean that canister on a VERY REGULAR basis. If not, it's going to generate nitrates which aren't good for the fish.

| Re: New Kid on the block You can make a sump out of a used tank or Rubbermaid container. Limited buddget - then get yourself a better skimmer & good lights. That will hold you until you can add other equipment. Where you buying your equipment from?

| Re: New Kid on the block Check out this site - it will give you an understanding of sumps/refugiums Melevsreef.com | Acrylic Sumps & Refugiums Keep in mind that you can get a used tank & just glue in your own separators. Ok on Foster's & Smith. Was wondering if you were buying local since sometimes you can get taken.
