Default Husbandry plans of water?

Asking to all what plans of water husbandry you all have for REEF?

Time of water changes and how much.
What calcium and Alk plan you use. other things you add to water.
Have special way of making new saltwater as you boost it or not?

Have a 75 and 120.

well i am just starting my tank right now so there isnt any fish or anything in it. But I have a 29 gallon eclipse tank... If someone more knowledgeable in your tank size doesn't answers your questions, then i suggest going to your local fish store and asking for help there

Welcome John !

For water changes its very good to get in the habit of a 10-15% change weekly. if you do that from the start and keep up on it, the hobby will treat you good long term. Depending on your corals, the water changes alone may replace lost CA/ALK and other trace elements, remember, never dose what you cannot test for. I like to make my water ahead of time, at least 24hrs, I use a heater and a powerhead in a rubbermaid tub.

Keith,
Thank you for helping me and all of us newbees. Now when you make water do you boost it if cal/alk and ph not up to tank numbers so when you WC it will not lower the main tank numbers?
I am asking as some members told me about it because some salt mixes are not up to the numbers.
And what test kit work for you as giving a good numbers?

John,

There's always something for all of us to keep learning

For test kits salifert is probably the best of the best, most local stores dont carry them so you'll have to buy them online, from dr fosters n smith or someone like that...

For the water, if you use say Instant Ocean, I think the CA levels are a little lower in there mix compared to others. I suppose you can add to the top off/water change water to level out. Someone else is gonna have to chime in for this part because I dont wanna steer you wrong.

if I find out more I will let you know

Keith

i always keep kent liquid calcium handy and add a capfull to the water just before i add for a water change, treats 50gal, honestly can't remember the numbers. after never changing haven't been to strict on the CA test. bad habit i know, but everything else checks out and everyone is still living. fish hate high CA levels

Keith, Odered from That Fish place the Salifert tests.
What do you add to feed corals?
On the makeup water I am using limewater to help as I read in books and online here for calcium and ph levels.
I will not add anything to the water change water works ok now do not do a over dose.
