Welcome to RB!

I would stick with live rock/live sand for the first 3 months then think about getting soft corals.

soft corals are easy to take care of then hard corals, hard corals require less lighting. With anyone just starting out I always encourage them to start with live sand and live rock and then move into soft corals.

the decision between chooseing which coral is all up to you. I suggest checking out your lfs or looking at tanks online to see the different variety.
welcome to rb and good luck
Dan
