Default Hello, I'm getting a new 75 Gallon...

Hello,

I'm new to the forum and to the world of saltwater. I've always wanted a saltwater aquarium and my wife just gave me one for my 39th Birthday. Yea for me!!! I've ordered a 75 Gallon oak w/cherry finish from all glass.

It will have approx 115 pounds of live rock and a custom built sump from my local dealer (Fishy Business in Beaumont, TX). I have two young daughters so I will definately get some clown fish (either percula or ocelaris) and probably a blue tang. (I would probably get them even if I didn't have daughters as I think they are beatiful and not just because of nemo) After that I'm not sure of any other species I'll put in and don't know the corals by name yet.

My wife originaly bought a certificate for a 30 gallon then I decided on the 58 gallon for the size and depth (36" wide). I then decided that I wanted a wider aquarium and went to a 55 (48" wide). After talking to my dealer and another reef tank owner I bit the bullet and ordered the 75  for width and depth. I'm hoping it is the magic tank size that will keep me from wanting to upgrade quickly as I'm sure the 30, 58 and 55 would have.

My tank should be in Tuesday and I just can't wait to get it set up and watch things grow, swim and live.

welcome and good luck. just remember to be patient in the set up. many needless deaths in the first six to eight weeks because cycling isnt complete. use this site frequently and ask all the questions in the world and your family should have a great time for years to come.

Welcome King Nine,
I am fairly new to this forum as well (an excelllent site). I've had a 75 Gallon for almost a year. It is such an interesting hobby... I hope you wife knows what's in store? Have you decided on a lighting system yet? I think 75 gallon is a very good starting tank, especially since I haven't had any spike problems
