Default fromia starfish predator

I woke up this morning to my new fromia starfish torn in half. My husband suspects a hermit crab. We have small hermit crabs, a couple of common clown fish, one tomato clown, one neon clown gobi, one neon dottyback, one cleaner shrimp, one brittle starfish, one scooter blenny and one fairy basslet...all tank raised (which doesn't always mean anything). Any ideas on the culprit?

Well, when I first got him I had 2 clowns in the tank, those had to be removed to their time-out tank because they were being uber territorial. There was only a few fish in the tank after that. One day my husband bought a firefish and a watchman goby for the tank. The dottyback beat up on the firefish, and my husband moved the goby to my son's tank. Then, a couple of weeks later, the dottyback went missing and my basslet was beat up. It is hard to say "homicide" without a body, but I have a sneaking suspicion...
