Default Did she kill the feather duster?

My wife moved some of the rocks around and in doing so tore the tube on the tube worm. Will this kill him and will he be able to still extend himself through the tube. He is torn down by the base.

I accidentally did something similar when I was cleaning the substrate. My featherduster was buried and because I didn't see him, I forgot he was there. I know I probably gave him some injuries. He has snapped out of it, uprighted himself to feed and so forth...may have still ruined his quality of life a little. Have you seen your worm at all?

Yup, he popped out about an hour after I posted this. Seems to be alright.

Alright, so I was curious and did a little reading on wetwebmedia.com...your wife probably did not kill the featherduster. According to that site, featherdusters can "grow" a new tube in time. Sometimes they leave their tubes, altogether without damage to the old one. I hope this helps, try not to be too hard on the missus!

Did your feather duster lose his feathers during the ordeal? When I returned from 2 week vacation, having had a pet sitter, I found a crown of feathers laying on the bottom and thought the duster had died. But a week later it was feeding with a new much smaller crown of feathers. I read it can discard it's old crown completely if severly stressed and grow a new one which is what it did. Target feeding . phytoplankton, liquid organic foods, etc., to build up its strength and keep it hardy..

Nope just looked like she tore the tube. I also read that about the feathers.
