Default Coral Banded Shrimp!

YAY MY FIRST LIVE SALTWATER ANYTHING was/is a coral banded shrimp. His name is Zissou and he is pretty darn neat. Anyone else have any of these guys? Have any experience with them? He looks like a weighlifter the way his claws are all puffed out all the time. Good stuff- Clay

I like mine. I heard they can attack fish if they get too hungry. I just don't see it happening unless I have a super lazy fish that will not move or maybe something dying. In comparison to the cleaner shrimp, he doesn't move swiftly. Somebody likes The Life Aquatic.

Yes, yes I do. The LFS gave me some frozen krill(sp?) to feed him. I have these worms (LFS said they are a type of sea snail) and from what I gather, he will eat them. Looks like he ate one last night becuse there is a pile of something in the corner of the tank.

Occasionally I target feed my CBS squid, since he is a bit slow to get to the usual food fed to the rest of the crew. It will eat that as well. I bought my CBS to keep my bristleworm population down, I think it is working out just fine.

Thanks everyone. Um, I really don't know what I want. I deff want some corals and anemonies and whatnot. The standard clownfish and anemonie thing. Thought about a decorator crab but, that was before the CBS. Deff a goby or something like that. Stuff that has lots of color is good. I like color.

I just love my Coral Banded Shrimp. My wife was critical of the creature because it liked to hang upside down in the cave I have in the tank. To our amazement, under the "moonlight," he came out and traversed the entire length of the tank in clear view in about 10 minutes. Must be nocturnal, obviously. I put pellets at the front of the cave and he will come down quickly and grab several in his four "feeder arms" and scurry back into his cave. Cool creature!

they are known to do that. I had read somewhere that if I had a CBS first then add an arrow crab, the crab will leave the CBS alone......not true at all! I woke up the next day and all I saw were the antennae of the CBS on the sand in the back of the aquarium, and when I saw the crab, it had a piece of the CBS in its claw....but that was a long time ago.

I've got a mated pair of coral banded shrimps, they mate like crazy, they come right out at feeding time and share a corner of mysis with my mandrin, they snap there claws if something gets CLOSE to them but I've never seen them attack, I have a cleaner shrimp along with a GOOD amount of peppermint shrimps, they all seem to get along for the most part, I have a few large caves so maybe that helps, they are upside down up in the one cave for most of the day...

Cool shrimps, with HUGE arm span

Why do you think my shrimp always disapear? Ive had fish and coral for almost 2 years, but i cant seem to keep one the easiest animals to take care of. The only thing I can think of is my purple pseudo. supposedly the pseudo can eat ornamental shrimp, but the pseudo is only about 2"....think it can eat a shrimp the same size? Ive tried 4 peppermints, 1 BCS and a scarlet skunk cleaner. They all die. I can keep crabs, just not shrimp! 55 gal reef.
