Default acclimating Astrea snails??

has anyone ever had trouble acclimating Astrea snails. I didn't do a drip rather just the fold the bag over so it floats and added about 4oz of tank water every 10 minutes for nearly an hour. Today at lunch one of them was on it's back at the bottom not moving and when I got home today the other was on it's back. At lunch, I turned the one over and no dice. This one this evening, I picked up the second one from it's back and tried to get it to grab the glass, which it did but hasn't moved since. Did I do something wrong? The two Margarita snails and the two reef crabs are fine and running and eating all over the place.

the second one I found this evening that stuck on the glass is back and moving, but the first has retracted as deep as it can get into the shell. I'll wait it out and see what happens.

How long before I should give up hope and yank it out of the water before it rots??

Don't know. At t his point, it doesn't sound good. I dumped an assortment of snails a couple of weeks ago into my tank and they all have survived and are doing nicely (astrea, bumblebee, cerith, trochus, and nassarius). The way I acclimated mine was (I know I'm going to hear about this, but one cannot argue with success) I floated the bag for 30 minutes. I then opened the bag, and let the bag fall to the tank bottom. The snails all crawled out within 2 hours, at which time I withdrew the bag. This breaks many common sense rules that we all preach, I realize that. My source is a pro aquariam tank maintenance person, who used to work with the Corpus Christi state aquarium. I have more problems acclimating conchs than snails.

yes, that is how i acclimate my snails and hemrits as well. i call it the dump-in method. you just dump all the water into a seperate container, grab the snails by handfulls and plop them in. they are VERY hardy and ive only ever lost a few. i had about 70 and 50 hermits, then over the years, they wil die and eat eachother.

are you having problems with Astreas falling off and landing upside down?? THe first one finally floated or was pulled from it's shell so I sucked him up with a baster. The second one that came back alive after I thought he was gone has now fallen off and has't moved in a day or two.

I wonder if my water is too warm. My water bounces around between 81.5 and 82.5ish. It's VERY steady but a little on the warm side. Could that be my Astrea issue?? The Margarita snails and reef hermits are doing fine.
