Default Flame Scallop Hiding

Hubby loves the look of the flame scallops so I purchased one last week. I put it in a spot on the bottom that I didn't think it could shoot out of. Well the first night he shot up and wedged himself into a crevice in the LR. He looked great and he stayed there for a week. This morning I can't find him and after several minutes of panic I locate him in the back of the tank. He is right up agains the back between to rocks and can barely be seen. Now the LFS told me to make sure to feed him by hand with a dropper so he eats. Well it is impossible in the location he is at now, plus we can't enjoy him back there. So, should I leave him, try to feed him in that spot????
thanks for the help.
Kathy

hi...i only have a 29gallon cube, i bought a regular flame scallop to start off with, he bounced around the tank for a couple days then wedged himself inside my live rock, no matter how much i moved him, it would always go back, then i got an electric flame scallop cuz they are cool as hell and cheap...did exactly the same thing. they both just recently moved around but i have had them for at least 4 months and i never worry about spot feeding them at all. they are smart enough to get in and out of those spots. just keep putting in that phytoplankton green juice and brine shrimp...they will get some of it somehow.

steve

ps..if you have kids you'll like this one...when i got my 1st one..i told my kids that it was called a TOE SCALLOP...they saw it slamming its shell together and jumping around the tank..i told them that if they touched my tank an left the lid open it might jump out and that it liked to go after peoples TOES...and that it would bite them off...they about lost it, they were so afraid of it..they still think i am for real.

Hey coudl you post a pic of that other scallop I can only seem to run across the flame scallops and I remember from my younger days (much much younger) seeing either blue eyed scallops or some sort of blue scallop for saltwater. Would like to see if this guy matches my memory.

Thanks for the reply. Now I won't worry about it as much. Hopefully he will bounce back out where we can see him. I wanted to get another, but I guess I will go with a clam instead. At least they don't hide as fast!
thanks again

I had that problem with my flame scallop, but he is now moving around all the time and most of the time you can see him in the new spots. I heard somewhere they need to be fed 7 times a day!!but im not sure about that because mine is doing fine and i feed him twice a week..
