I have noticed over the years that hermit crabs are seriously viscious when it comes to taking a shell from a tank mate be it snail or another hermit crab. When it comes to eating larger tank mates they are totally oportunistic. Some urchins are not as easy to keep as some might say.My bet is it died of natural cause's and the crab found a chance for a good meal.Dont rule out the eel but they are gemerally messy killers and his mess would be evident.

Bri,
Sorry to hear of your loss... or the hermit crab's gain...
Do you feed your hermit crabs? dead rosy reds, silver sides, etc.
Were you feeding the long spine urchin?
Keep an eye on that eel.

what type of eel is it?

I know a wolf eel will eat urchins as its main diet in the wild.
