Default Agressive Hermit

Ok. I have had 1 Scarlett and 2 Zebra Legged Hermits. I just got 3 red legged and 3 Blue legged and the Zebra one is already attacking the other hermit. The bigger of the 2 Zebras seem to be attacking and I can only guess killing the other hermits. (because I cant find them after a few weeks and I literally see him push the other ones off rocks and climb on top of them and dig into there shell with his claw)

Since Zebra hermits are the only ones with enlarged claws he can really do some damage.

Any one else have this problem? I have removed him from the tank for now. I dont want him killing anymore!

It has been my experience that hermits only attack to obtain larger living quarters. If you buy a few larger shells and put them in the tank your troubles will end.

You need to have bunches of spare shells around the tank and that should eliminate much of the aggression. The other half of the aggression can be from needing more food.

Murder in the tank....yes I too have been having Hermit problems. Our hitchhiking Electric Blue hermit killed and ate first a small margarita snail, then ate a big turbo snail. It moved into the turbo's shell so we are hoping this is the end but we are watching him closly. We are adding extra shells just incase but if he doesn't stop with the snail slaughter he is going back to the shop. Good luck and lets hope our shared hermit meyhem stops soon.
Cheers,
Evan

HA - Yeah Im pretty sure my crazy hermit ate a few snails on his way out. He moved into a black snail shell pretty soon after entering the tank. I just assumed the snail had died and he took it over after the fact.. but im guessing not since he is crazy!
