Default Dragon Goby

Im putting this in here because I think this is where most of the clean up crew conversations happen and the Dragon Goby I got about 3 weeks ago was the best investment I have made thus far in my reefing world to go along with my clean up crew.

He was only $20 and he cleaned ALL the algae from the sand within 5 days!!

I was able to put my lights back up to 8 hours a day and he keeps everything looking fantastic!! He even goes around and eats algae off rocks -

He dosnt mess with the other fish - He cleans up everything - He is the best!

Nice, you mean mandarine dragonet though right? I happen to have one also with a lawnmower blenny. I enjoy watching them both.

Yeah but they are VERY hard to keep in a aquarium. Everyone who I know who has had them - they have died. You have to have constant perfect conditions for them to survivie. I was actually reading a artticle on them and how hard they are to keep -

Sad!

speaking of dragonets, people were telling me that it was not possible to keep one in a 14 gallon reef. Well, i did my research, and bought one. I have now had for 3 months and i have gotten it to eat mysis shrimp and formula 2 pellets.

you must be a lucky person.

typically they are hard to care for because of their eating habbits.

they like to eat copepods and in smaller tanks, the pods cannot keep up the breeding process for the appetite of the hungry dragonet. as soon as the food source runs out, they will die.

but congradulations that you got it eating flakes!
not too often you hear about that.

I had read everything about how hard the Dragonets are to handle too, but got one anyway and i've had it for months. He's gorgeous!!!! And I have no problems with him eating and being healthy.

I know what you are talking when you say dragon goby, very cool looking fish when they are young, its good to know they are so helpful as well! Congratz!

I think my dragonet became a snack for my "reef safe" serpent starfish. It did look pretty though..

Funny, that was what I was thinking too when I read dragon goby. No, this is a different fish being discussed...not the Violet Goby.
